‘Vieira chose the wrong team’, warns fellow Arsenal great Thierry Henry

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has insisted that Patrick Vieira has chosen the wrong club when he opted to become New York City FC coach.

The former midfielder left his post as Manchester City’s head of Elite Development in order to take over as the head coach of NYCFC following the departure of Jason Kreis, who oversaw the side during the Major League Soccer season.

Vieira had been keen to take a management role after several years spent working with Manchester City’s youth players, and having been overlooked for vacant posts at Leicester City and Sunderland, he has opted to cross the Atlantic and take over at NYCFC—who have just ended their first season in MLS.

However, Henry—who played alongside Vieira at Arsenal—has insisted that his former teammate chose the wrong team.

“He’s gone to the wrong team,” said Henry, speaking to Sport 360 as per Le 10 Sport. “New York is a big city, he will like it.

“He will train with guys he’s played against [Lampard, Pirlo, Villa] and that will be fun. I hope he can change the way the team plays, because their non-qualification for the [MLS] playoffs was a huge disappointment.

Henry, of course, may be slightly prejudiced about the quality (or lack thereof) of NYCFC due to the fact that he featured for their city rivals New York Red Bulls!
