Chelsea transfer news: Two OUT, one IN for Jose Mourinho, with £40m bid plotted

Chelsea are planning a January move to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, according to sources.

The Sunday Express [via the Daily Star] report that Jose Mourinho is lining up a £40 million bit for the international attacker, who was the third-highest scorer in La Liga last season.

Chelsea had considered a move for the forward during the summer but were rebuffed by Atleti.

However, in light of the reigning champions disastrous start to the season—they sit in 16th place during the international break, having lost seven matches to date—Mourinho is ready to up the pressure as he looks to secure the former Real Sociedad man.

Should the Blues fail with their mooted £40 million approach, Griezmann’s buy-out clause is £55 million, which could tempt Mourinho.

In further Chelsea transfer news, with Griezmann potentially incoming, the end could be near for Diego Costa.

The Daily Star report that  the Spanish striker’s days are numbered at West London, and both he along with high-profile flop Radamel Falcao could be cast away in January.
