Arsenal confident of landing frustrated Juventus star in January

Arsenal are said to be confident of beating a host of other interested clubs to the signature of young Juventus defender Daniele Rugani during the January transfer window, according to the Metro.

The 21-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan with minnows Empoli, where he impressed with a string of assured and confident displays, but he has so far been unable to break into Max Allegri’s plans upon his return over the summer.

Fellow Serie A sides Lazio, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Genoa are all believed to be amongst the pack chasing his signature, but Italian publication Tuttosport claims that Arsenal are in pole position to prize him away from Turin.

The Gunners are thought to be in need of some extra options in their defence, as Per Mertesacker is showing signs of slowing down and Laurent Koscielny has suffered a number of injuries now that they are both over 30 (via Metro).
