Barcelona megastar Lionel Messi is currently facing criminal charges for tax fraud in Spain. While the four-time Ballon d’Or winner is highly unlikely to ever see the inside of a jail cell, his frustration with the situation in Spain may drive him right into the loving arms of Arsene Wenger at Emirates Stadium.
The Daily Star reported that Messi is currently earning £14 million a year after taxes with Barcelona and has a buy-out clause worth more than £175 million.
Since 2004, Messi has made 321 appearances for Barcelona and scored 289 goals. He owns every major Barcelona scoring record, La Liga scoring record and has won 25 titles with the club.
In October a Spanish judge ruled that Messi and his father Jorge should stand trial for defrauding tax collectors of an estimated £3 million relating to the use of offshore companies to hide his earnings.
