With some of the best depth at the midfielder position in the Premier League, it should come as no surprise that Manchester United are right in the middle of the title hunt this season even with their scoring difficulties. As the January transfer window approaches, the Red Devils appear poised to further strengthen their middle, starting with Argentine star Lucas Biglia.
According to the Metro, Man United are offering Biglia an annual salary of £2.45 million – exceeding the £2.1 million-a-year offer believed to on the table from Real Madrid. Liverpool have also been linked to Biglia.
The Metro noted that although Biglia would have a tough time replacing stellar summer acquisitions Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, he is more than capable of replacing 34-year-old Michael Carrick when the veteran’s contract expires.
Biglia has made at least 20 appearances in each of his last two seasons with Lazio, recording five goals and three assists in that span. So far this season Biglia has scored four goals: three in Serie A and one in the Europa League.
