Man United sign teenage midfielder after successful trial spell

Manchester United have signed 17-year-old midfield starlet DJ Buffonge following a successful trial spell with the club, according to Sky Sports.

Buffonage joined United on a scholarship contract after turning out for the under-18 side at the start of the season before he sustained a groin injury.

Having started out with Arsenal’s academy, he joined Fulham in 2010 before departing the Championship club earlier this summer.

Popular United Academy coach Paul McGuinness says the progress of Jesse Lingard and James Wilson through the Old Trafford ranks will prove to be a great incentive for all the club’s youngsters.

He told the club’s official website: “You don’t know when it will come [the call to join the senior squad] so you have to be prepared all the time.

“You can’t have a day or week off and think I’ll be OK, I’ll not live my life right over the weekend, because you don’t know when the call is coming. It could be on Monday morning and you’re with the first team. So you’ve got to be prepared 24-7. It’s got to be your dream, and you’ve got to do it every day.”
