Chelsea went into today’s match thinking only about a win – because with that and a little bit of help from Porto, they’d be able to secure a spot in the Champions League knockout stage.
Despite a valiant effort from the Israeli league champions, which included several shots that only narrowly whipped away from Asmir Begovic, Chelsea stayed in control and managed to capitalize with a perfect header from Gary Cahill that went in on a second effort.
Chelsea went into the half in complete control going into the half thanks to a red card to Maccabi Tel-Aviv star Tal Ben Haim – a former Chelsea player.
In the second half Maccabi Tel-Aviv would not go away quietly, making three incredibly well placed shots on goal that were saved by Asmir Begovic.
Ultimately though, it would prove to be Willian who tormented the Israeli team, scoring a goal on a dead ball kick in the exact same way as his first one.
The goal put Chelsea up 2-0 but they weren’t done yet as Oscar got the last word on a goal of his own to make the score 3-0.
Kurt Zouma would score a header of his own in the final moments to make the final score 4-0.
