Arsenal back in for £32m-rated Mauro Icardi despite Inter rejection

Arsenal are set to rekindle their interest in Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi when the transfer window reopens in January, according to the Daily Express.

Reports in Italy over the summer claimed that The Gunners were pursuing a move for the 22-year-old, but they saw a £32million bid rejected by Inter before moving on to try a move for Real Madrid frontman Karim Benzema.

However, the spurned efforts to prize the striker away from the San Siro has not deterred Arsene Wenger, who is being tipped to spend heavily on reinforcements in the new year having only managed to bring in goalkeeper Petr Cech last time out.

Icardi, who is also of interest to both Chelsea and Liverpool, has only managed to find the net four times so far this term. He has been in trouble recently for his perceived poor attitude on the pitch, and has been likened to temperamental striker Mario Balotelli, which is a comparison he rejects.

“I don’t identify with Balotelli,” he told GQ last month. “I don’t know him at all.

“There are no similarities between us.”
