Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez gave an interview with beIN Sports earlier this week, in which he traced his career all the way back to humble beginnings in his native Chile and recounts the story of how he came to own his first pair of football boots.
He explains that his parents were poor when he was growing up, meaning that they couldn’t afford to buy him football boots and that he would often have to go out into the street to play barefoot.
Here he tells the story of how he finally got his first pair of boots – aged 14, as a gift from the mayor of Tocopilla, the town where he grew up.
