Chelsea team news: Jose Mourinho AXES underperforming star for Tottenham clash

Posted by

Jose Mourinho’s patience with Diego Costa has finally run dry, with the Portuguese coach opting to ditch the Spain forward from his starting XI for Chelsea‘s game on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Pensioners are enduring a miserable start to their Premier League campaign, and despite winning their last two games—against Norwich City in the league and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Champions League—they remain mired in the bottom half of the table.

After 13 games, the Blues sit in 15th place, having won only four and lost seven of their matches to date. On 14 points, they are only four clear of the relegation zone and a whopping 15 behind leaders Manchester City.

As Mourinho seeks to reinvigorate his flagging team, he’s opted to jettison Costa, who has appeared out of sorts so far this term.

The tenacious forward has managed only three goals in 11 outings in the EPL, contributing only one assist, and has subsequently been ditched for the meeting with Spurs.

Instead, the coach has opted to lead with Eden Hazard, with the Belgian supported by Willian, Oscar and Pedro.
