Jamie Vardy Everton: Toffees boss calls Romelu Lukaku ‘perfect’, not swapping for scoring leader

Everton and Leicester City currently boast two of the most prolific strikers of the 2015-16 season with Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy respectively. Although Vardy has been setting the Premier League on fire with his scoring streak, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is not enamored enough with Vardy to give up Lukaku just to get him.

Martinez revealed that he thinks the 22-year-old Lukaku is “perfect” for his team and is a striker who can do it all [per the Daily Mail]. However, Martinez stopped short of making a direct comparison between Lukaku and Vardy.

“I think it has always been the case that Rom (Lukaku), with the potential he has, is perfect for us. He is a striker who can do it all.

“He has the old-fashioned traits — he can have his back to play, the strength, the power. But he can also run with the ball and is a clinical finisher. You can see from his scoring record what he is. That is why we made a huge investment in him.

“With Rom what you get is a reliable footballer who always presents an incredible threat.

“But he is still only 22 so he cannot really be compared to anyone. There are not many players who at his age have achieved what he has achieved.”

Vardy recently broke the Premier League record for consecutive games with a goal, after scoring in his 11th straight appearance for the second-place Foxes. He currently leads the league with 14 goals through 14 matches.

As for Lukaku, he made history as well this month when he became the fourth youngest player player in Premier League history to score fifty goals, and added another goal to his tally this past weekend against Bournemouth. Over the last four matches he has recorded five goals and three assists.
