Wilfried Bony demonstrated once again that he can step up and replace Sergio Aguero should the Argentine forward by absence by finding the net 12 minutes into Manchester City’s Capital One Cup clash with Hull City.

The Ivorian forward, deputising for Aguero, opened the scoring inside the first quarter of an hour after firing past Tigers stopper Eldin Jakupovic.

City are without several key players for the visit of Hull in the League Cup, with the likes of Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany also missing through injury according to the Daily Mail.

Aguero is also absent, having limped out of City’s weekend clash with Southampton—a match which ended in a comfortable 3-1 triumph for the Citizens.

However, the win came at a cost, with Aguero—who only recently returned from a seven-week layoff—having to leave the field early before being pictured exiting the Etihad Stadium on crutches.

Despite missing much of the campaign with injury, the former Atletico Madrid hitman remains City’s top scorer, having already bagged nine goals so far this term.

In his absence, neither Bony nor Nigerian wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho have truly proved that they can step up and replace Kun’s goalscoring contribution.

Before the knockout clash against Hull, the Ivorian—who won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Cote d’Ivoire earlier in the year—had managed just four goals in 15 outings this season. Last season, the West African bagged just two goals in 10 Premier League outings at City after leaving Swansea during the January transfer window.

Iheanacho—despite making an instant impact against Crystal Palace in the EPL—has still only managed two goals in ten outings this term and remains a raw talent.
