Manchester United latest transfer news: Midfielder worried about Old Trafford future; wants van Gaal talks

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is reportedly concerned about his future at Old Trafford and wants clear-the-air talks with Louis van Gaal.

The Spanish midfielder signed for United in 2014, and after initially taking his time to establish himself at the Premier League, he steadily began to impress with his movement, passing, technical prowess and intelligence.

However, van Gaal invested heavily in his midfield this summer, bringing the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to Old Trafford. Similarly, he can call upon the likes of Daley Blind, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, all of whom can feature in the heart of the park.

In light of such competition, Herrera has found it hard to establish himself this term, starting only six Premier League matches, and coming on as a substitute in a further three outings.

Indeed, Herrera hasn’t played for 90 minutes since the 0-0 draw away at Crystal Palace at the end of October.

A source has revealed to the Daily Star that Herrera is concerned about his future at Old Trafford, and wants to discuss his options with van Gaal.

“Ander is worried about his lack of progress at Manchester United under Louis van Gaal. He feels like he’s lost his identity as a player and doesn’t know what his role is anymore,” the source told the tabloid.

“His situation appears to be getting worse and he’s worried his career is going backwards, so there will have to be a chat with the manager.”
