Man United transfer news: ELITE trio on January shortlist

Manchester United‘s scoring woes have been well-documented, but manager Louis van Gaal appears to have a plan for the January transfer window that involves bringing in at least one player from a trio of European superstars.

According to the Metro, Louis van Gaal has chosen his three top targets for the club to sign in January: Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani (19 games, 10 goals), Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (22 games, 25 goals) and Bayern Munich veteran winger Arjen Robben (12 games, 5 goals).

The Red Devils have been sorely lacking the necessary scoring threats this season with Wayne Rooney struggling (and now injured) while expensive summer pickups Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial have struggled to pick up the slack and capitalize on scoring chances.

As for how realistic it might be for Man United to land any of the stars on Van Gaal’s shortlist: Aubameyang would likely cost a ton of money considering his current run of dominance in Bundesliga, and Robben reportedly rejected an offer from the Red Devils this past summer. That leaves Cavani who the Metro reported is open to leaving Paris Saint-Germain for a variety of reasons.
