On the heels of rumors that Jurgen Klopp is already pursuing his former Borussia Dortmund stars Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, another of his success stories could be joining him at Liverpool this January, namely midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
According to Liverpool-Kop, the Reds are still interested in the £25 million-rated midfielder, and the interest for Gundogan appears to be somewhat mutual.
“Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals. I’d like to play for one of the big teams in England,” Gundogan said back in January.
Last month the Liverpool Echo reported that Gundogan had been linked to a reunion with his former manager.
The 25-year-old Gundogan has yet to score in Bundesliga this season but recorded an assist against Augsburg in October. He earned Man of the Match honors in the Europa League for his performance against FC Krasnodar at the end of November.
One of the major knocks on Gundogan, however, is his extensive injury history. Since the 2010-11 season he has reportedly suffered 13 different injuries, spent over 500 days on the sidelines and missed 108 games. He has yet to play at least 30 league games in a single season.
