Manchester United face Bayern Munich transfer competition for Premier League forward

Posted by

Bayern Munich are understood to have joined the race for Southampton forward Sadio Mane, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

According to the Telegraph, the Senegal hitman has attracted the interest of Pep Guardiola as he continues to impress in the Premier League.

The forward moved to the Saints from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014, and scored 10 goals in 30 appearances last term. To date, he has found the net three times in 14 outings so far this year, and contributed five assists in the Premier League for Ronaldo Koeman’s south-coast side.

His form has prompted interest from United [Telegraph], although the Red Devils ultimately opted to move for Anthony Martial during the summer, signing the French wonderkid for an initial £36 million [Telegraph as above].

United have remained linked with the forward, particularly in light of the relative failings of Martial and Dutch forward Memphis Depay to lead the line consistently for Louis van Gaal’s side.

However, any hopes United may have had of signing the forward in January could be scuppered by the reported interest from Bayern, who reportedly see the West African as a long-term successor to ageing pair Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.
