Van Gaal handpicks wonderkid midfield solution for Man United; Arsenal also keen

Louis van Gaal is understood to be desperate for Manchester United to sign Ajax midfielder Abdelhak Nouri.

While the youngster may not be the most high-profile target the Red Devils have been linked to in recent times, LVG is understood to have taken a personal interest in the wonderkid.

According to the Daily Mail, the Dutch coach is personally involved in recruiting his compatriot, ahead of a potential January move.

The tabloid describe Nouri as a ‘star of the future in Dutch football’, although van Gaal’s insistence in securing a move may indicate that he sees a role for the Ajax starlet immediately, rather than waiting for him to progress in the future.

However, any hopes the manager has of bringing the player to Old Trafford ought to be tempered by news that Arsenal are also keen on the player.

The DM note that the Gunners have sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the player, although the likes of Everton, Tottenham, Southampton, Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be eyeing the Dutch U-19 captain.
