Ashley Cole’s transfer to AS Roma has pretty much been a disaster in footballing terms, but the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender now finally has something to show for his move to Italy.
According to the Sun on Sunday, the 34-year-old is set to become a father for the first time, with his gorgeous Italian model girlfriend Sharon Canu six months pregnant, expecting a baby boy.
Cole met Canu last summer shortly after joining Roma on a free transfer from Stamford Bridge. He has made only 16 appearances for the Serie A giants and none in any competition this season.
The glamour couple are said to be ecstatic, with a source telling The Sun: “Ashley’s over the moon, too. He couldn’t wait to find out the baby’s sex and he’s chuffed that it’s a boy.
“Sharon’s sweet and from a normal Italian family. His friends and family love her.”
Canu’s grandfather, a Mr Buzzelli, revealed from his home in Rome that the baby is due in March. He told The Sun: “Ashley is very happy. He’s a good guy — and my granddaughter is a beauty.”
Cole’s ex-wife Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, now remarried to Jean-Bernard, has learned of the news but not from her former husband, who she dumped in 2010, heartbroken from his serial cheating.
England centurion Cole is one of only two players to have won the Premier League and FA Cup double with two different clubs. He is also a Champions League and Europa League winner with Chelsea.
The big question is: will baby Cole grow up to support England or Italy?!
