Liverpool eye Simon Mignolet replacement from Serie A giants

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez as speculation continues to suggest that Simon Mignolet’s future is in doubt.

According to Fichajes, the 34-year-old is being lined up by Jurgen Klopp as the German tactician has been left unimpressed by Mignolet since his arrival at Anfield earlier this season.

Aside from some shaky moments in the Premier League, the Belgian shot-stopper was also guilty of making a costly error against Bordeaux in the Europa League. While Liverpool were able to turn things around in the game itself, it didn’t mask the disappointment over his performance and it wouldn’t have helped his case of securing his position.

Meanwhile, Lopez has fallen out of favour at the San Siro with Gianluigi Donnarumma securing the number one shirt for the Rossoneri since the middle of October.

The 16-year-old has impressed despite his lack of experience, and it comes after Lopez had been guilty of a string of errors to start the season which saw coach Sinisa Mihajlovic lose faith in him.

While that would arguably be enough to put Liverpool off signing the former Real Madrid star, it appears as though he is on the Merseyside club’s radar for January and Milan will likely be ready to listen to offers given that Christian Abbiati is also in the squad to act as back up to Donnarumma.
