Chelsea prepared to ditch Diego Costa to bring on Atletico Madrid goal machine

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be ready to ditch misfiring striker Diego Costa in favour of making a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, according to the Metro.

The under-fire Portuguese tactician is reportedly desperate to bring in extra quality during the January transfer window and has placed the France international at the top of his wish list.

Chelsea are said to be willing to spend a massive £36million on bringing the diminutive attacker to the club, but would also be willing to consider a swap deal for the two players.

Reports in Spain suggest that Mourinho would also be happy to send Costa back to his former stomping ground and will use the Spanish international as a bargaining chip to bring Griezmann on board.

However, Mourinho has been told that he has just one week to save his job at Stamford Bridge after Saturday’s embarrassing defeat to Bournemouth, and must beat both Porto and Leicester if he hopes to remain in charge of the club.
