David Beckham ‘gutted’ that son Romeo gives up football

Former Manchester United and England legend David Beckham is said to be devastated that his son Romeo plans to give up football, but is also pleased that he is doing so to pursue other interests, the Daily Mirror reports.

The 13-year-old, who has worked as a model for fashion brand Burberry, is said to be keen to follow other passions in his life rather than tread in his father’s footsteps.

Beckham also spoke about his eldest son Brooklyn, saying “photography is his passion” – which has been evident on the 16-year-old’s Instagram account, where he has amassed more than five million followers.

The former Manchester United player told the Radio Times Christmas issue: “The other day Romeo turned round to me and said he didn’t want to play football any more.

“Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too.

“He’s got other passions and I like that.”

Beckham also revealed that he believes FIFA should stick with keeping the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding its planning.

“Whether it’s corrupt or not, those countries have been chosen. People need to get behind that.

“It’s all about bringing football to new countries. I think they should stick with it.”
