Chelsea, Man City & Barcelona receive transfer boost as contract talks stall

French journalist Frederic Gouaillard has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti will be extending his deal at the Ligue 1 giants, even if contract talks are going slowly.

In the Premier League, both Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked to the deep-lying playmaker in recent months, while Barcelona have admitted their interest in the midfielder and Real Madrid are also eyeing a player who could be an ideal long-term successor for Luka Modric.

However, as reported by Le Parisien, the 23-year-old is currently in negotiations with his current club PSG over a new contract, and even if talks over a new deal have slowed, Gouillard has expressed his confidence that an agreement will be found.

“I think that PSG and Verratti will find an agreement for an extension,” Gouillard confirmed, as per Le 10 Sport.

However, should the Italy international fail to agree terms with PSG ahead of the January transfer window, speculation will once again mount concerning his future destination.

Could Jose Mourinho target Verratti as a revitalised upgrade on the lethargic Cesc Fabregas, or will Manuel Pellegrini be eyeing the Azzurri star as a ‘newer model’ for the increasingly fitful Yaya Toure?
