Liverpool shopping for Chelsea stopper as Simon Mignolet alternative

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been disappointed with the performance of starting goalkeeper Simon Mignolet over the last few weeks, and he appears to be looking for a replacement in the January transfer window. Based on latest reports, his target appears to be Chelsea backup stopper Asmir Begovic.

According to Itasportpress [via the Metro], Liverpool were previously interested in landing Begovic when he was still the Stoke City goalkeeper and are interested in landing the Chelsea backup in the next transfer window.

Begovic struggled to keep the ball away from the goalpost, allowing at least two goals in eight of his first 10 starts in relief of an injured Thibaut Courtois.

Mignolet allowed two goals – including an own-goal from Martin Skrtel – in Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United last week.

The Metro reported that the Reds are also interested in AC Milan stopper Diego Lopez as a possible replacement for Mignolet as well.
