(Video) Jesse Lingard goal disallowed due to Juan Mata interference

All looked rosy for Manchester United when Anthony Martial fired his side into a 10th-minute lead in tonight’s crunch Champions League clash with Wolfsburg, but that joy was short-lived for the Red Devils.

Within less than 20 minutes of Martial’s opener, United were behind thanks to two goals of the highest quality. First, Naldo levelled the scores with a stinging volley, before Vieirinha finished off a stunning team move with a close-range tap-in, following great work from Julian Draxler.

United briefly celebrated an equaliser of their own just before half time, but it was ruled out by a late offside flag.

Jesse Lingard’s right-footed cross from the left had deceived Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio and gone straight into the net at the far post.

Juan Mata was in an offside position when Lingard delivered his cross and therefore the goal was disallowed.

PSV Eindhoven and CSKA Moscow reached half time deadlocked at 0-0 in Group B’s other match. If the score stays the same in Holland, United can qualify for the knockout phase by drawing with Wolfsburg.

However, if PSV win, United will also need maximum points to avoid dropping into the Europa League.
