Confirmed: Unlucky Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge out until after Christmas

It just goes from bad to worse for Daniel Sturridge after it was confirmed that his latest injury setback will keep him on the sidelines until after Christmas, according to The Sun.

The England international reportedly felt a “twinge” in his hamstring following Sunday’s surprise 2-0 defeat to strugglers Newcastle United, and after undergoing a scan on Monday it was confirmed that he has suffered a strain and will be kept out of action until the new year.

He was immediately pulled from the squad to travel to Sion for Thursday’s Europa League clash and the news means he will miss the club’s busy festive period, bringing an end to a frustrating year that has seen him suffer with numerous hip, thigh and hamstring problems.

The Sun quote a Liverpool insider as saying: “This is yet another new problem rather than a recurrence of an old injury.

“The doctors are saying it is definitely a case of Daniel being out for weeks, rather than months.”
