Spurs are set to make a number of changes as they close out their Europa league campaign with a clash at home to Monaco.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are enjoying a superb season and have lost just three of their 21 games so far this season. The club are already through to the knock out stages of the Europa League and currently top Group J with 10 points, three more than Anderlecht.
With qualification secure, Pochettino is expected to rest a number of his key men, most notably Harry Kane.
The 10 goal forward has featured in all the club’s games this season but is set to get a well-deserved break on Thursday as his manager looks ahead to this weekend’s clash with Newcastle.
“Is it a chance to rest him? Maybe yes,” Pochettino told reporters ahead of the game.
“He is in the squad but it is true we need to assess him and we have to decide the starting 11.”
The former Southampton boss will be without Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard (both ankle) while Mousa Dembele is ill. Midfield pair Nacer Chadli (ankle) and Nabil Bentaleb (foot) are back in the squad after injury and could feature.
The teams drew 1-1 when they met earlier in the group, however Spurs will be confident of success having won both of their European home matches this term, beating Qarabag 3-1 and Anderlecht 2-1.
Monaco are currently third in the group but need to win at White Hart Lane and hope Qarabag can grab a win or a draw in Belgium in order to progress.
Despite the odds being against them, manager Leonardo Jardim has not given up hope.
“The team is progressing. We were aggressive against Bastia at the weekend,” Jardim said at a news conference.
“It was an important victory because we achieved it with a lot of young players, which corresponds to the club’s project of developing youngsters.
“It is great to win matches and that is always our ambition.
“It is difficult to explain why we are better away from home, but the team will continue to develop.”
The Ligue 1 side will be without a number of key players for the trip to London with Guido Carrillo (calf), Fabio Coentrao (thigh), Ivan Cavaleiro (back), Joao Moutinho (hip), Thomas Lemar (ankle) and Jeremy Toulalan (thigh) all expected to miss out.
Its been a disappointing European campaign for Celtic with the side already eliminated from the tournament as Ronny Deila’s side will already finish bottom of Group A.
Whatever side you support, don’t forget to take in all the action online – you don’t have to miss a kick!
