Chelsea closing in on move for PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi

Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners to sign Paris Saint Germain star Blaise Matuidi after learning that the French giants are ready to cash in on the player, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 37-cap France international has developed into one of the finest central midfielders in Europe over recent seasons, and after virtually sealing the French title already this term he is reportedly keen on taking up a new challenge elsewhere.

Chelsea are believed to be keen on landing his services, as manager Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of his work rate in the middle of the park.

However, a move for the player would be more likely in the summer as opposed to the new year, as he would be ineligible for Chelsea’s Champions League campaign in the second half of the season.

The 28-year-old joined PSG from fellow Ligue 1 side St Etienne back in 2011, and has since gone on to make a total of 207 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals in the process.
