Video: Chelsea loanee on target to send message to Jose Mourinho

Chelsea loanee Nathaniel Chalobah was on the scoresheet in Napoli’s 5-2 win over Legia Warsaw in the Europa League on Thursday night.

After some wonderful build-up play from Maurizio Sarri’s men, the England Under-21 starlet showed off some great ball control before cooly slotting home to break the deadlock at the San Paolo.

Having yet to play a senior game for Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, Chalobah will undoubtedly be hoping to impress with his performances for the Serie A side in order to earn himself a chance under the Portuguese tactician.

The 20-year-old would have certainly sent a message with his display against Legia on Thursday night, although it remains to be seen whether or not he can secure more opportunities in Naples having only featured in the Europa League thus far.

Although the talented youngster has proven that he has plenty of ability both in the Chelsea youth ranks and for the England Under-21 side, he has yet to prove that he can make the step up to senior level successfully.

More goals like that seen above will certainly help his cause, while Napoli will now look ahead to the round of 32 draw on Monday having finished the group stage with a perfect record.

Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens were all on target in the big win this week, as they finished top of Group D having won all six of their games and scored 22 while conceding just three in the process.

Meanwhile, given Chelsea’s struggles so far this season which see them sit in 14th place in the Premier League having lost eight of their first 15 games of the campaign, Mourinho may well be tempted to look towards the future and see which individuals can help the club bounce back next season.

With a number of senior players letting him down to this point, it could open up an opportunity for Chalobah if he can continue to impress in Italy.
