Wolves and Nottingham Forest will have aspirations of moving into the top half of the table when they meet at Molineux later this evening.
Both sides are in reasonable form heading into the fixture and are in the hunt for promotion, so three points for either would come in very handy indeed come April.
Forest made it two wins in succession last time out as they secured a 3-0 home win over Fulham thanks to a Matt Mills brace and a goal from Chris O’Grady. The wins have moved the club up to 15th in the table, 6 points off the top 6. The club have a zero goal difference, having scored and conceded 19 goals to date.
The club are set to be boosted by the availability of Liam Trotter. The Bolton midfielder scored once in 7 games during a loan spell in October and has now agreed a second spell with the club for the month of December.
Jack Hobbs is also available following suspension. The defender was sent off against Reading and missed the win over Fulham last time out. However it could find it difficult to get back into the side with Michael Mancienne putting in an assured display alongside Matt Mills against the Cottagers.
Wolves meanwhile are a point and a place above their rivals and will head into the clash unbeaten in their last four games. Three of those have ended all square, with a first win in five achieved last time out with a 2-1 win over second from bottom Rotherham.
Home form has been disappointing, with Kenny Jackett’s side tasting victory only once in their last six at Molineux, so there is every chance that Nottingham Forest could go for the jugular, which should make for an entertaining matchup.
Adam Le Fondre and Benik Afobe are vying for the forward position ahead of the clash. Le Fondre got the nod last weekend but failed to find the net as Wolves won 2-1 and it remains to be seen if the former Reading man did enough to impress Kenny Jackett.
Last season Wolves won 2-1 at the City Ground but lost 3-0 at home. They also lost 2-1 at home in the 2012/2013 season and in all have won two of their last five meetings.
Those who feel Wolves have enough for victory can back them at a best price of 11/8, while Dougie Freedman’s Forest side are available at a juicy looking 5/2, with that price sure to attract plenty of attention.
The stalemate can be picked up at 12/5.
It should be a cracker of a Friday with both Wolves and Nottingham Forest with genuine Premier League ambitions, and with Blackburn and Rotherham also on the coupon it should prove an early Festive treat for both punters and fans.
