Things have gone downhill rather dramatically for Manchester United over the last few weeks. The club has gone four straight matches between the Premier League and Champions League without a win, getting knocked down to the Europa League and fourth place in the Premier League in the process. Under van Gaal this year, Man United have gone 8-5-3 and suffered their first Premier League defeat since early October in a 2-1 loss to AFC Bournemouth.
After beating CSKA Moscow to take first place in the Champions League Group Stage in early November, Man United failed to beat PSV Eindhoven for the second straight time in a 0-0 draw and lost to VfL Wolfsburg a few weeks later to get knocked out of the Champions League altogether.
