Chelsea star set for axe after failing to inspire at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea midfielder Jon Obi Mikel could be set to leave the club for Galatasaray as he continues to see his opportunities limited under Jose Mourinho.

The Nigerian midfielder made just six starts in the Premier League last season as the Blues went on to lift the trophy, and his frustration has continued this year with Nemanja Matic and Ramires currently occupying the midfield positions.

It doesn’t appear as though the situation will improve for the 28-year-old, and according to Turkish outlet Takvim, as reported by the talkSPORT, Galatasaray are planning on making an offer to Chelsea in the coming days with a view of agreeing on a fee ahead of the January transfer window.

Mikel’s current deal with the Premier League outfit runs until 2017, and with the club unlikely to offer him an extension, they may be tempted to accept Gala’s offer in a bid to avoid losing the midfielder for nothing further down the line.

Chelsea’s troubles could spell the end of the road for many of their first-team stars in the upcoming windows, with Mourinho under severe pressure as they continue to languish near the relegation zone.

After their loss to Leicester City on Monday night, the reigning Premier League champions are just a point above the bottom three, and so it remains to be seen whether a change is made at managerial level, or if the squad is overhauled instead.
