Jamie Carragher hits back at Diego Costa after Chelsea striker’s ‘sleeping’ accusations

Jamie Carragher has strongly stood up for the defenders’ union by hitting back at Diego Costa for his ‘sleeping’ accusations during Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in the Premier League.

Costa appeared to blame Leicester’s opening goal at the King Power on some careless defending – making a sleeping gesture towards teammates Nemanja Matic, Ramires and Kurt Zouma.

Zouma and captain John Terry did seem to switch off on 34 minutes as they allowed Jamie Vardy to ghost between them and convert Riyad Mahrez’s cross for his 15th goal of the season.

You can judge for yourself whether it was lacklustre defending from the Blues, or clever movement and a great delivery from Leicester’s prolific pair, by reliving the goal in the below video.

Nevertheless, former Liverpool centre-back turned Sky Sports pundit Carragher feels that Costa was out of order considering his lack of contribution in Chelsea’s disastrous start to the season.

“There’s nothing worse than a player coming back telling other people what they should be doing considering he’s been asleep all season,” Carragher told Sky Sports, according to The Independent.

“He’s done nothing really for Chelsea this season considering what he did last year.”

The Spain international has found the net just three times in the Premier League this season, after scoring 20 in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge last year to fire the Londoners to the title.

Their defeat to the table-topping Foxes left Chelsea 16th in the table, only one point above the drop zone. Frictions in camp is the last thing that they need if the Blues are facing a relegation battle.
