Manchester United lining up move for teenage starlet

Manchester United are reportedly preparing an offer for Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes after the youngster has impressed so far this season.

The 19-year-old became the youngest ever Portuguese player to score in the Champions League in September, while he has also impressed domestically for the club as he has four goals already this season.

According to Bild, United have already scouted Guedes on several occasions and have made no secret about their interest in the talented youngster.

However, it is also reported that Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing him too and so Louis van Gaal will face competition if the speculation is true.

Guedes has already won two caps for the national team as he looks to try and establish a spot in the squad for Euro 2016 next summer, which in turn would give all the interested parties another opportunity to see how he fares on a big European stage.

Nevertheless, in United’s case in particular, it would continue their strategy under Van Gaal in recent times in terms of trying to identify young talent and build for the future following the arrivals of the likes of Luke Shaw, Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial.

Whether or not they are able to beat their rivals to the signing of Guedes remains to be seen, as ultimately the more immediate focus will be on getting back on track after losses to Wolfsburg and Bournemouth last week have left Van Gaal under intense pressure.
