Chelsea attacker set for January exit as club plot ambitious approach

Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille are understood to be plotting a move for Chelsea striker Loic Remy.

According to Le 10 Sport, Les Dogues are keen to bolster their options during the January transfer window as they look to continue their revival under Frederic Antonetti.

The French source notes that Lille have considered Newcastle United pair Emmanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran, neither of whom have shone at St James’ Park since joining the Magpies.

The latest reports indicate that the northern side see Remy as a viable—if ambitious—target in order to boost their offensive threat in the French top flight.

The striker moved to Stamford Bridge from Queens Park Rangers in 2014, having previously featured for Newcastle, as well as OGC Nice, Marseille, Lyon and Lens in his homeland.

While few doubt Remy’s abilities in front of goal, he hasn’t truly been given an opportunity to impress by Blues coach Jose Mourinho.

He has made only seven Premier League outings so far this term—of which only one has been a start—and only bagged his first goal of the campaign in defeat to Leicester City on Monday evening. However, he is a fine finisher and once managed 14 goals in 26 outings for Newcastle, and six in 14 for QPR.

It remains to be seen whether Remy will be named in France’s squad for the 2016 European Championships if he continues to be a bit-part player for the Pensioners, whereas a move to Lille could reinvigorate his hopes of making Didier Deschamps’s squad.
