Liverpool are believed to be preparing a double raid for young Schalke pair Leroy Sane and Joel Matip, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports are claiming that Reds chief Jurgen Klopp has been given licence to spend during the January transfer window, but as it stands he is presently looking ahead to the summer for longer term targets.
And The Mail is reporting that Sane and his Bundesliga teammate Matip are two players that Klopp wants right off the bat.
Matip, who is now in the final year of his contract, would be available for free at the end of the season, and Klopp would be able to negotiate his arrival at the club next month.
It is thought that Matip would provide some much needed competition in the heart of the defence, which has been ravaged by injury at various stages this term.
Meanwhile, Mane has been a target for the Anfield giants for weeks now, and has been tipped as a future superstar.
