Klopp wants to bring international Serie A defender to Liverpool in January

According to reports in Spain, Jurgen Klopp is plotting a move to bring Juventus defender Martin Caceres to Liverpool during the January transfer window.

Fichajes [via the Metro], report that the German coach is targeting the Uruguay international ahead of a potential January move, and sees the versatile defender as an ideal component to shore up his leaky backline.

The 28-year-old has struggled to assert himself at Juve this season, despite the Old Lady’s early-campaign strugglers, and may well be receptive to a move.

He’s featured just twice for the reigning Italian champions so far this term, but has struggled to establish himself ahead of the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and full-backs such as Patrice Evra, Alex Sandro and fit-again Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Caceres could be a valuable asset for the Reds; he can offer cover across the backline, and would also offer considerable experience, having represented Barcelona—where he won La Liga—and having lifted the Scudetto four times in Turin.

Liverpool have also been linked with Schalke defender Joel Matip [Daily Mail], who is a younger, but less experienced, option than Caceres.
