Atletico Madrid star had ‘bags packed’ for Arsenal move THIS January

Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez reportedly had his bags packed in anticipation of completing a move to Arsenal in the new year, but may now have to put those plans on ice, according to Spanish publication El Confidencial.

The 21-year-old may now be required to remain at the Vicente Calderon after the club lost veteran midfielder Tiago to injury.

He had initially felt as though he was not a valued member of the first team squad, and had his eyes on an exit in the new year, but now thanks to his teammate’s misfortune, he is now getting the playing time he feels he deserves.

And the news will come as a blow to the Gunners, who had been eyeing him up as a potential problem solver to their own injury issues in the middle of the park.

However, he has not been the only name to be linked with a move to Arsenal in the coming weeks, but Niguez is a highly-rated youngster in the Wenger mould, and under different circumstances he could be on his way to the Emirates right now.
