Arsenal celebration short-lived as star player suffers hamstring injury, out until mid-January

Arsenal recorded a huge win over Manchester City in a 2-1 victory that has them right in the thick of the Premier League title hunt. But the celebration for manager Arsene Wenger may have to wait as he received some sobering news about one of his top players, Alexis Sanchez.

According to the Telegraph, the already-injured Sanchez suffered a brand new hamstring injury on Saturday during practice that will sideline him until mid-January. The target date at this time would be the January 13 clash against Liverpool.

The Chilean striker led the team in scoring last season as Arsenal won the FA Cup for their second year in a row. This season, Sanchez has six goals and an assist in 14 Premier League appearances as well as three goals with four assists in the Champions League.

Fortunately for Arsenal, the team have managed just fine without Alexis Sanchez thanks to the incredible scoring combination of Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil. Giroud has scored a goal in three straight Premier League matches and six goals in his last four total matches including a hat trick against Olympiacos in the Champions League. Ozil has a goal or an assist in 11 consecutive Premier League appearances and leads all major football leagues in assists.
