Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was forced to miss out on making the trip to a children’s hospital on Monday because he had been ordered to give a sample to drug testers, according to the Daily Mirror.

United first teasers made the trip to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital following their annual Christmas meal to go and put smiles on the faces of their young fans, but the Spaniard was forced to miss out because of a two-hour drugs test.

And according to reports, the 24-year-old was less then pleased to miss out on the trip because of the request made by the Doping Control Unit.

While at the hospital, under-fire manager Louis van Gaal gave a rousing speech to everyone in attendance, and it is claimed that over 200 people gave him a standing ovation when he finished.

“We are Manchester United and we will survive — but we have to stick together,” he said.
