Jose Mourinho would have to take 50% pay cut to take Man United job

Jose Mourinho would have to take a huge pay cut if he is to join Manchester United that would see his £12million salary at Chelsea halved, according to the Daily Mirror.

Mourinho has emerged as the strong favourite to take over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford after recent results have put the Dutchman under increasing pressure.

United have gone six games without a win – three of which were defeats – and reports over the past week claim that Mourinho is now poised to take over from the Dutchman after stating that he has no intentions of taking a sabbatical from the game following his own sacking at Chelsea.

The United board are said to be considering van Gaal’s position, and could even relieve him of his duties before Boxing Day’s meeting with Stoke, and could pave the way for Mourinho to take over.

However, the Special One would have to take a pay cut of 50% to take the job, and may have to kiss his status as the league’s highest paid manager (£12m) to accept a more modest £6m-a-year deal similar to what van Gaal currently earns himself.
