Real Madrid linked with move for under-fire Chelsea star in January

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a move to Real Madrid as the Spanish giants have shown an interest in him.

According to Fichajes.net, Rafael Benitez is keen on working with the 28-year-old and believes that he would make a great addition to his squad in the Spanish capital.

With Fabregas failing to match his level of performances from last season, he has come under heavy criticism for his poor form and has faced the wrath of the Chelsea supporters since the sacking of Jose Mourinho last week.

The Spaniard was jeered on Saturday during the win over Sunderland, as many believe that he contributed to the ‘Special One’ exiting the club after a discord had emerged between the coach and his players.

As a result, Benitez will hope to take advantage of the situation and sign the former Arsenal man despite the fact that he hasn’t enjoyed a great relationship with Madrid supporters in the past given his connection to Barcelona.

Nevertheless, that is unlikely to be a significant stumbling block for the club as they look to strengthen ahead of the second half of the season as they continue to chase down La Liga leaders Barcelona.

As for Chelsea, interim coach Guus Hiddink will likely be in contact with the hierarchy to discuss their activity during the January transfer window, although it remains to be seen if they sign off on any significant transfer dealings until the summer when a new long-term appointment is made.
