Speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, the former French international was adamant that the Portuguese tactician could help the Red Devils move forward as they continue to falter under Louis van Gaal.

United crashed out of the Champions League last month and have since slipped out of the top four in the Premier League after losing back-to-back games against Bournemouth and Norwich City.

Coupled with the general criticism that Van Gaal has attracted through his playing style which has resulted in a lack of goals for the club this season, it has led to speculation suggesting that the Dutchman is on borrowed time, as suggested by Sky Sports.

In turn, that has led to the discussion about Mourinho being a possible successor for the former Ajax boss at Old Trafford after he was sacked by Chelsea last week having made a disastrous start to the campaign.

Henry believes that Mourinho showed enough during his first spell with Chelsea and during his time with Real Madrid that when he has the personnel at his disposal, he is more than happy to play a more progressive style of football which would keep the United fans happy.

The Arsenal hero was adamant that the 52-year-old would be the type of manager that United need in order to get them back to the top, as they may well need to react to what rivals Manchester City do in the summer with rumours circulating that Pep Guardiola will move to the Etihad when his contract expires with Bayern Munich at the end of the season, according to The Telegraph.

As a result, Henry is convinced that it would be a smart move on United’s part to appoint the former Chelsea boss with Van Gaal possibly nearing the end of his tenure.
