Chelsea‘s post-Jose Mourinho revival got off to a terrific start with a comfortable victory over Sunderland last weekend, but they found the going much tougher at home against Watford.

The Blues took the lead through Diego Costa, who gave Guus Hiddink an early Christmas present with a 32nd-minute opener.

However, they conceded just before the break when Troy Deeney scored from the spot and fell behind when Odion Ighalo scored his 13th of the season in the 56th minute.

However, Costa, perhaps revitalized following the exit of Mourinho, added his second in the 65th minute.

From then on, Chelsea kept the pressure on their visitors, and had a golden chance to win late on when Valon Behrami brought down substitute Eden Hazard, only for Oscar to blaze his spotkick over the bar.

The result leaves the Blues in 15th place in the Premier League table, only two points ahead of the relegation zone, while Watford remain in seventh, level on points with Manchester United.
