Liverpool eye Serie A stars as Jurgen Klopp set to replace unreliable ace

Liverpool are reportedly considering either AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez or Lazio shot-stopper Federico Marchetti in the January transfer window.

The Reds have been searching for another option in between the posts since the start of the season, with current No.1 Simon Mignolet failing to convince Jurgen Klopp that he can successfully hold down the position.

As a result, the club will continue their search for an alternative during the January transfer window, and according to Sky Sport Italia, as reported by Football Italia, they have identified two targets in particular.

Lopez has fallen out of favour at Milan and after suffering from a dip in form and injury he has lost his place in the starting lineup to youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma. Meanwhile, Marchetti has endured a rocky relationship with Lazio for some time and would potentially be open to a move elsewhere.

Nevertheless, at this stage it appears as though Lopez could be the more likely option for Liverpool, with the Spaniard keen to get back playing regularly and with the Rossoneri hoping to remove his wages from their books.

In contrast, Marchetti has struggled with form and fitness in recent years, and is no longer considered one of the better options for Italy coach Antonio Conte.

It remains to be seen whether or not Klopp lands either star next month, but it will undoubtedly come as a huge blow to Mignolet if further competition arrives with current No.2 Adam Bogdan failing to take advantage of his opportunity to impress earlier in the month.
