Manchester United great blasts big-money van Gaal flop

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has heaped further pressure on Louis van Gaal by criticising one of the Dutchman’s big-money summer signings.

Memphis Depay arrived at Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven at great expense in the summer, but has hardly set the world alight since his switch to England.

The versatile attacker has managed only two goals—and zero assists—in his 14 league games to date, and had a disastrous showing on Saturday as United fell 2-0 to Stoke City.

Memphis was hauled off at half time, but not before he’d been influential in the home side’s opener, under-hitting a dismal diving header which Stoke capitalised on before Bojan Krkic fired past David De Gea to give the Potters the lead.

Yorke, who is an adulated figure at Old Trafford following his role in the treble-winning side of the late 1990s, wasted little time in slamming Depay for his error at the Britannia Stadium.

“Memphis Depay’s header is the worst diving header I’ve ever seen,” Yorke said in the Sky Sports studio [as per the Telegraph].

“You have to deal with those situations better, he has to be more decisive.”

Depay is just one of a number of underperforming big-money signings whose dismal showings in the EPL have heaped further scrutiny on van Gaal, with the striker’s lack of goals—alongside the struggles of fellow new addition Anthony Martial—has thoroughly undermined the Red Devils’ title hopes.
