Erik Lamela has scored his eighth goal of the season to put Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 up at Watford in today’s ‘top of the table’ Premier League encounter.
Spurs, who started the day fourth – three points ahead of in-form Watford – are looking for their third consecutive win during the festive period.
They were gifted the perfect start on 17 minutes, when an error from Hornets defender Craig Cathcart sent Spurs on a break from the halfway line. Harry Kane ran with the ball, before sliding it to Lamela, who used Miguel Britos to block the view of goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
Lamela has arguably been Tottenham’s most impressive creative player this season. In addition to his eight goals in all competitions, the Argentina international has provided three Premier League assists.
Christian Eriksen, who was replaced in the starting XI by Tom Carroll this afternoon, has netted two league goals and added six assists, while Dele Alli has scored four and made three.
