Atletico Madrid are understood to be eyeing a move for Watford hotshot Odion Ighalo as a potential replacement for Jackson Martinez.

The Colombian forward arrived in the Spanish capital during the summer, signing for Atleti on a £29 million deal from FC Porto [fee via the Mirror].

However, the tabloid report that Atleti are keen to cut their losses on the misfiring hitman, who has managed only three goals in 12 outings for the Spanish heavyweights, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur both understood to be keen on the forward.

While Spurs are going strong in the Premier League, they lost Clinton N’Jie to injury earlier this month and are arguably overly reliant on Harry Kane [Express].

Martinez’s departure risks leaving Atletico light on goalscoring talent, but the Mirror report that they’ve identified Watford goal machine Ighalo as a potential solution.
