Steven Gerrard offers Man United & Louis van Gaal transfer advice after Chelsea stalemate

Liverpool great Steven Gerrard has urged Manchester United to move for a striker in the transfer market following another limp offensive showing in the Premier League.

The Red Devils again appeared devoid of ideas and shorn of inspiration on Monday as they could only manage a 0-0  draw at home to struggling Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney again appeared lethargic and frustrated—an annoyance which bubbled over late on when he was guilty of a horror tackle on Oscar—while Anthony Martial was lively without producing much in the way of of end product, and Memphis Depay was axed from the starting XI following his error against Stoke.

Speaking to BT Sport [as reported by the Mirror], Gerard insisted that United most move in the transfer market in order to acquire the kind of firepower they need before the second half of the campaign.

“Manchester United still need something for me,” the midfielder began. “I think they need an extra striker because there’s still too much pressure on Wayne Rooney.

“Martial is very young, Depay is very young, I think they need an extra striker to come and help Wayne Rooney with the goal burden.”

United’s offensive deficiencies have exposed Louis van Gaal’s decision to offload the likes of Robin van Persie, Chicharito, Danny Welbeck, James Wilson (currently on loan at Brighton), Nani and Angel Di Maria during his tenure.

One player who may be set for a comeback, however, is Adnan Januzaj, who was pictured at Old Trafford for the match against Chelsea, prompting speculation that he may be set for a return to the club from his unhappy loan spell at Borussia Dortmund [The Sun].
