Bad news for Klopp: Liverpool & Barcelona set to miss out on South American forward

Liverpool‘s hopes of signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi look set to be put on ice following revelations that the attacker will not be moving clubs in January.

Speaking to Radio CRC, as per the Daily Star, the player’s representative Alejandro Mazzoni has confirmed that his client will not be leaving PSG next month, partly because the club may decide they still have a role for the veteran attacker.

“At the moment I see no real possibility, the player will not leave in January,” Mazzoni began.

” PSG are doing very well in the Champions League and they want to go as far as possible, that could therefore hinder a Lavezzi departure in January.

“Next June, Lavezzi will quietly choose his team for next season.”

While the representative’s words may provide encouragement that Liverpool could get their man in the summer, they would appear to rule out any chance of Lavezzi arriving to provide a mid-season lift in January.

According to talkSPORT [via the Daily Star as above], the Reds are keen on the versatile, veteran attacker and have been looking to bring him to Anfield in January.

They aren’t the only ones to be interested, however, with Sky Sport Italia [via Goal] also noting that Barcelona were keen on the 30-year-old to provide cover for their celebrated attacking trident of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Lavezzi has struggled for game time this season following the arrival of Angel Di Maria from Manchester United, but with the Parisians fighting on various fronts—and keen to go far in the Champions League—Laurent Blanc may still feel that the player has a role to play in the French capital.
