Man City to fight with Liverpool over £32m-rated Bundesliga starlet

Manchester City are set to go up against Premier League rivals Liverpool for the signature of Schalke forward Leroy Sane, according to The Guardian.

Liverpool have held a long standing interest in the youngster and had been tipped as frontrunners for his signature, but The Guardian report now claims that City will throw their hat into the ring.

However, City have reportedly been watching Sane since 2013, and both clubs are aware that the German giants want a fee in the region of £32million (€40m) in order to let him go.

Sane is under contract with Schalke until 2019, having agreed a new deal with the side back in the summer, and General Manager Horst Heldt is not keen on letting him go.

“Leroy is a very talented player who has already indicated in recent seasons how versatile he can be in the attacking area,” Heldt said at the time of the player signing his new contract.

“Given his development and his great potential, we are very pleased that Leroy sees his future at Schalke.”
